Bookmarks – SSRS

Bookmark is used to navigate within SSRS report section. Bookmark can be created with any component that has action propery.

In this blog post, I am going to show you a simple example that has bookmark to navigate within SSRS report pages.

Step 1: Create a new SSRS report

pic1Step 2: Add three text boxes and fill the text as show in this picture

pic2Step 3: Add a rectangle and setup page break to create second page. After that, add a text  box on the 2nd page and fill the text as shown in the image.

pic3Step 4: Now, create bookmark for the text box “This is page 2” by giving bookmark name in the bookmark property of the text box.

pic4Step 5: To create page 3, we have to add another rectangle and setup page break. We should also add a text box and setup bookmark on page 3.

pic5Step 6: We have created bookmarks for our report. Now, we have to link the bookmark with action. So, go to page 1 and setup bookmark link. Go to page 1 and setup the bookmark link for the text box “Goto Page 2”.

Right click on the text box -> Go to text box property -> Action

Now, Set up bookmark link for the text box “Goto Page 3”

pic7Step 7: Go to report preview tab and click “Goto Page 2” or “Goto Page 3” text box.

Now, You should be able to jump to the target page without scrolling through intermediate pages.

Bookmark is a very useful feature in the report to set up navigation with in the report section. You can also create custom table of content in a large SSRS report to help user to go to the necessary page without scrolling.
